Klunker Tires

I'm in the process of building a semi-klunker from an old Schwinn cantilever frame, and I need some blackwall tires. I actually plan to ride the thing and I'm not independently wealthy, so vintage Uniroyal Nobby tires are out.

I'd like a tire with a nice flexible casing, not the thick heavy ones with 1 tpi rope as the casing material that seems common on cheap tires. Wire bead is ok, though.

I've come across some tires online, the Kenda K80 and CST 693 that have the tread pattern that I'm looking for. The Kenda also seems to be sold as a Sunlite brand.

Does anyone have any experience with these or any idea what the quality is like? Is there anything else I should consider?

Schwalbe has released in the last years the "Century" model, with a very classic styling and even clear walls. It costs around 20 eur the piece. Only for 700 wheels though, no 26"

I looked at the Schwalbe and Conti lineups, but don't see anything with a tread pattern like the two I posted above. They both do have some retro type tread patterns, but in more of a city tire pattern.

I do appreciate the suggestions, though.

I doubt you will find another tire that looks more like an Uniroyal Knobby than that Kenda.

Though not exactly 'retro' looking, I've been using the Kenda Small Block 8 on my klunker inspired ride. Great for dry hardpack/gravel etc. I ride my klunker on the same trails I ride my regular mtb, as well as gravel grinding and just fun city hooligan riding. In fact, these days I ride it more often than my modern bike.

I've done nothing on the tires. I forgot all about them when I was in the LBS.

This is the bike that they are for; 1978 Schwinn Typhoon. Quite a few parts are placeholders; tires, grips, saddle, handlebar, spokes/nipples, rear derailleur, and pedals will be changed. Rear canti brake will be added. The plan is to run the derailleur cables (which are ziptied on now) through the curved extended seatstays.

Edit - and it will get new paint, probably black...
